a knack for art

communication illustrationthis is my very first attempt at illustration for the Illustration Friday blog. click it for a bigger picture. I like it but I need to do a lot of work on my finishing techniques. I think the drawing is very good but I’m not all that happy with the outline and color – I did the drawing with ink and paper (no pencil sketch) and then scanned it and colored it in PhotoShop. I think next time I’ll try coloring it by hand.

I’d appreciate any constructive criticism.

You know she loves him. Just playing hard to get. On the other hand he is trying to hard to gross her out. I think they will make a perfect couple. You should turn this into a movie and make millions.

I like the coloring. It was well done and suits the picture.

I think the girl’s hands are not positioned correctly (pointing to upward), and the right foot is a bit big for the shoe, though that could be done on purpose. Besides that, I love her facial expression and stance.

As for the boy, the stance is perfect, as well as the detail. Not sure if the tongue should be out more or not, but other than that, a great job was done.

I like the interaction between the characters. I actually like the looseness that comes with imperfect lines. I think that I would go for a hand coloring too. I think that it is a great illustration!

i think its great! the only criticism that i have is i dont feel like the boy is looking at the girl, his eyes seem a little past her. otherwise i think its an awesome idea for communication. i like the lines and coloring although hand coloring it would look nice too. !!

you do have a great drawing ability! love the characters and their gestures. I don’t think the eyes on the boy are supposed to be ON her refering to Brisa’s comment. He’s making a cross-eyed face. You don’t necessarily have to do the painting by hand if you want to keep trying digital. Just scan your sketch in grayscale next time…then set your brush setting to “multiply” and it won’t cover up your lines…you get no white edging.
