RejectionAnakin rejects his master. Not a Star Wars fan? Then let me explain. Anakin was once a Jedi hero until the Dark Lord Palpatine turned him to the dark side and Anakin killed hundreds personally and millions by command, having become a Sith Darth and taking the name “Vader.” Years later he discovers he has a son and attempts to turn him to the dark side for his master. His son, Luke (after a lightsaber battle which took Vader’s mechanical hand), rejects Palpatine (now Emperor) much to Palpatine’s surprise, as he had foreseen Luke killing his father, Darth Vader (Anakin) and becoming Palpatine’s new Darth, Palpatine rejecting Vader. Palpatine now rejects Luke and tries to kill him with dark side energy bolts. Vader had been connected to his son for some time now and the suffering of his son for the sake of the light side awakens the old Anakin who rejects the dark side and so rejects his persona of Darth Vader, once again becoming Anakin and rejecting his master, Palpatine. He saves his son by lifting Palpatine, who is locked in dark hatred bent on killing Luke and unable to defend himself, and throws him into the reactor below where he vaporizes. Emperor Palpatine’s rejection from Luke and then Anakin results in his destruction – ultimate rejection.

It’s really quite simple. Isn’t it?

Mike- great image, and just to make sure I’m getting it- the theme of the image is some sort of rejection?… Just kidding- Fantastic picture, very in depth explanatory notes. I give you full marks all around.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Return of the Jedi is one of my all time faves! My friend and I once debated that the emperor was played by a different actor in Empire Strikes Back (I said yes, he said no) His friend agreed with me and even said a woman played the part (voiced by a man). But her scene was replaced by Ian McDiarmid when the DVD went out. hmmm, yet another example of rejection.

GREAT! I think you used the word “reject” at least 8 times – too funny! Have you seen the Star Wars stamps? Your illo is fabulous as usual and more so with the accompanying notes :)

Very humorous–I love it! (I still don’t follow whole thing even though I’ve seen it a bazillion times.) My six year old son immediately identifed each of the characters.

    Arkonbey Said: @5:51 pm

That is fabulous. The emperor’s Picasso-esque head. Luke looking like a spanked 9 year old. The texture of Vader’s legs and arms is very nice.
The lightning looks more like smoke to me, though.

Five hours AND you did two things for IF?

    Bah!

    ;)

Well Mike I must admit that Star wars ain’t my favorite movies! But then again it doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy your as-great-as-always illo! it’s full of feelings though I didn’t know anything at all about the story, I still enjoy your magnificent power of drawing. I “study” your every work and believe me I’ve learned alot just by looking at them!

    mike Said: @9:46 am

    Thank you, everyone!

Yeah, Jay and KD… I guess I was a little heavy-handed with the “rejection” referrences. :)

JC, I think Lucas played with these movies a lot – he was never satisfied and wanted to keep changing them but the fans wanted him to leave them alone. Fans tend to make up their own continuum and don’t like change.

Great comments, Arkonbey. I’ll work on those energy bolts.

Tina, Vader IS cute! You need to watch this scene again. His character is so manacing throughout the series but in this scene, through the magic of lighting, acting, music and close-ups, he looks sweet, confused and sad, even though it’s the same mask! The weirdest thing!

To everyone who said they’re not big fans, yeah, I took a risk with this nerdy idea, but the story of Anakin Skywalker is awesome.

    David Sones Said: @9:38 pm

    Yes! Fantastic!!

How could anyone not be a Star Wars fan? If by some freakish chance there are some poor misguided jedi out there, this illo will most certainly turn them back to the light side of the force. Or at least into a wookie. Grrroooowl..

Ewoks scare me. I prefer these more gentle father-son excursions. I think they went on to win the potato sack race right after they aced the Emperor toss.

I don’t want to offend anyone but I have never really been a fan of Luke Skywalker. I have just always thought that he was sort of a wuss. I think that you hvae captured that very well here.

Nice work all around. I am always fascinated by photoshop work and great research.
