awardmad4styles.jpgI am, once more, a weekly winner at Monday Artday. I won for the “one thing, 4 styles” challenge. Abraham Lincoln has been velly velly good to me.

captain ahab“Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee!” Thus were some of the last words of the revenge-mad Captain Ahab. Moments later his insane quest causes his ship to sink, all his men but one (the oarsman who tells the tale) to die, and his own life is given as he harpoons the great white whale and gets wrapped up in the line, tied to the whale to be taken down to his watery death.

My illustrations often stretch the topic but this time there was only one captain I wanted to illustrate. The captain of Moby Dick. You can read this great book for free. 30 minute sketch, 5 hour PhotoShop. Click the pic for details!

art cardsATC Exchange! This is a photo of 2 artist trading cards, also called art cards or ATC’s (click for detail). I did the one on the right. The collage on the left was done by the talented Brian Gubicza (goo-beet-sa). Brian is a freelance illustrator in Massachusetts who does some really awesome retro-modern stuff. Be sure to check out his blog, his portfolio, and a really brilliant tutorial. His blog, which he titles “Dream-shapes”, feature his wonderful illustrations of some wacky dreams he’s had. Tons of fun, great art, funny and super-creative.

The art cards (which I am a month late in exchanging – sorry Brian), are standard trading card size – 2.5 x 3.5 inches (think baseball cards), original art with a signature on the back and sometimes info like contacts, websites, clients, etc. They are not meant to sell but to trade, usually between artists. If you want to trade with me (I won’t make you wait as long I made Brian wait) then email me or leave a comment here (no personal info in comments please).

The card I made was done in ink brush pen and color pencil, sprayed with polyurethane.

emergencyLittle Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey… along came a spider who - hey, hey, hey! Get away! Emergency! Emergency! Call 911! Spiders certainly do seem to cause a lot of emergencies. Especially hairy ones tipping their top hats. 25 minute sketch, 4 hour PhotoShop. Click it for a better look.

my secretMonday Artday had a “My Secret” theme challenge so I figured I’d do myself adding “my secret” to a fine meal I’m preparing. My secret also extends to me missing from this blog for a month! Sorry if I’ve worried any of you. Been so busy and had a 2 week vacation in Mexico, I’m afraid I’ve neglected my drawing. I missed everything about drawing and my friends that know me here and on their own blogs… I missed you all so much. It’s good to be back! I have a lot to do to catch up so expect a lot more of me! As they say in blogland, cheers!
