I started this 21 day challenge 23 days ago (day 1 explains it) and I grew to enjoy it. I suspect that I won’t be posting drawings every day now that it’s over, but I will be posting more often, I’m sure. I started out with mixed ideas of where to go with it but ended up learning something – I like drawing kids, in particular I like drawing little girls. Maybe it’s because I’m so fond of my daughter (who turns 8 this month) and I’ve seen the world through her eyes for so long. I’ve also tweaked my style and I’m feeling more comfortable drawing. At any rate, here are some of my favorites of the 21 day challenge: day 1 (a hedgehog in a house dress!), day 9 (the bear trainer), day 13 (a gabby little girl – possibly my favorite), day 15 (a cat for a hat), day 16 (a sullen Alice on a magic mushroom), day 21 (I love the design of this Red Ridinghood), and bonus day 22 (I love how she’s holding that ice cream cone). Thanks for sticking with me and viewing my journey through the 21 days.
Day 22 of the 21 day challenge? Yeah, okay, time to retire the title. But hey… maybe it’s a habit? Here’s a little girl eating an ice cream cone that’s almost as big as her head. It’s wrong, isn’t it? I mean, it’s against the rules to cover a face like this, right? Rules are made to be broken, I say. Well, at least where art is concerned. Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
Little Red Ridinghood. Thus marks the 21st day of sketching and blogging. Is it a habit? We’ll see. I’m sure I’ll be posting a lot more, if not every day. Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
Goldielocks has found a bed that’s just right. Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.

Snail girl… This little girl is crawling like a snail on a lazy summer day. Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
Alice played croquet with the Queen of Hearts using a flamingo as a mallet and a hedgehog as a ball… “just as she had got its neck nicely straightened out, and was going to give the hedgehog a blow with its head, it would twist itself round and look up in her face, with such a puzzled expression that she could not help bursting out laughing…” Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. In a minute or two the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth and yawned once or twice, and shook itself. Then it got down off the mushroom, and crawled away in the grass, merely remarking as it went, ‘One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.’
‘One side of what? The other side of what?’ thought Alice to herself.
‘Of the mushroom,’ said the Caterpillar, just as if she had asked it aloud; and in another moment it was out of sight.
Drawn in my sketchbook, colored in Photoshop, 30 minutes.

A little boy speeding along on his trike. I seem to be attached to these cute little spot illustrations right now. Sketched, and then colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
This little girl has a lot to say. My own little girl (who turns 8 this month) can talk for hours on the phone but when I try to talk to her we only exchange a few words… Then she grabs my nose. What’s up with that? From my sketchbook, colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
Ballerina… From my sketchbook, colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you soiled your armor after a run-in with this killer rabbit! What with all the bones and blood and nasty, big, pointy teeth… From my sketchbook, colored in Photoshop.
Here’s a little girl scout leading a man across the street. From today’s sketchbook, colored in Photoshop. Click for bigger pic.
