Ah… the family that parades together, stays to - wait a minute… what instrument is little Billy playing?

Okay, Jasmine. We have a plate of five cookies. I subtract one and… hey! Where are the cookies? Jasmine!

Johnny Appleseed - an American legend. Johnny Appleseed was a real person that spread the joy of apple growing across the United States. He may have not worn a pot as a hat, but even in his time, such stories made him legendary. Read more. I was inspired by Gustaf Tenggren.

A few odds and ends I’d thought I’d share. I hope you enjoy them. First, Modok! This is a frighteningly cute version of Modok (Captain America’s weird cyborg arch-enemy) that I did for the March Modok Madness blog. While March lasts, you can join the fun too.
Next, a logo I did about 4 years ago for New Cafe, an online community. They chose minefor its simplicity - a dawn, the words “New Cafe”, and a bird chirping the “dot org” to remind us of the url. I liked it. |
Last, the first Bob Jones, and alien engineer that will be featured in the first annual Burning Bob. Go to my dump blog for more info and a link to the gallery featuring the making of Bob. |
A tribute to Bettie Page (1923-2008). Bettie Page inspired millions. Here’s a little illustration (pulp-fiction style novel) I did to honor her passing. She was a good girl, really. xoxo
A breezy swing on a sunny, windy day. The theme is “breezy” and who doesn’t like the wind whistling in your ears as you zip back and forth on a swing? This little girl certainly does.
Drawn in pencil, inked, then scanned and colored in Photoshop. About 2.5 hours.
This clown is feeling pretty good on his day off. I just joined in on the fun over at the wonderful website, sugar frosted goodness and this is my first submission (clown challenge). Lots of great artists post there. I hope I fit in. :)

The instinct of the cat means the death of a rat. I read Coraline to my daughter a couple of months ago. It was instantly one of our favorite books. We were very excited about the movie. It did not disappoint. It’s very rare to find a movie that so well preserves the spirit of the book. We will be enjoying both the book and the movie again soon.
A bit of a different style for me. What do you think? Photoshop, about an hour (not including time spent sketching out a few ideas), for Illustration Friday. Click it for a better look!
EDIT (Feb. 21, 2pm): I liked the design and felt it fit well with an old pulp novel sort of feel. I was partly inspired by Spacesick’s wonderful I Can Read Movies series. I designed the book cover and title, using pictures of a button and needle I posterized, then I used the book texture and instructions found here. Try it! It was fun. :)
Dorothy takes a break from Oz and Alice visits from Wonderland for some gossip about hatters, witches, queens and flying monkeys. Dorothy brought apples and Alice brought the tea. Click your heels three times and follow that rabbit!
A little girl celebrates with her friends, a giraffe and yeti. Yes, if you were friends with a giraffe and yeti, you’d celebrate too.
Drawn in pencil, inked, then scanned and colored in Photoshop. About 3 hours.
Once upon a time, there was a fairy tale princess… People have been asking me when I was going to do another gouache painting - so I did one! I hope you like it.
Gouache (opaque watercolor) on bristol paper. 9×12 inches. About 7 hours.
FOUND! Photographic evidence of Boom-Boom’s existence. Some have had their doubts and accused me of weaving lies (or telling tall tales). But here is a photograph and if that’s not Minnie “Boom-Boom” Mahoony then I’ll eat a sandwich! You may recall when I first found Boom-Boom, performing death-defying acts. I found her again in a lovely wedding picture. I am now thinking about pursuing her history further and Illustrating her amazing life. Wrestling alligators? Solving mysteries? Hunting snarks? Shooting out of a cannon? So much to tell. Are you a Boom-Boom fan?
Some friends gave me gifts! I got a fun self-portrait from my friend Michelle Lana and a funny little Yoda from my friend Nicole Falk! Yay!
I also got an atc of a blob fish, really cool comic book, and an awesome little book of sketches from Steve Loya! Check out his work.
Thanks, you guys! You really made my month!
